PURPOSE:

The purpose of this order is to establish policy and procedure to ensure compliance in accordance with the California Justice Information System (CJIS) rules and regulations governing access to law enforcement databases through the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system.  

SCOPE OF ORDER:

This order applies to all personnel assigned to Cerritos Station.

ORDER:

It shall be the policy of Cerritos Station pertaining to request(s) for information through the Computer Aided Dispatch system regarding any call for service, station response, or inquiry by a non-Sheriff’s Department employee, shall be referred to the on-duty station watch commander for approval.

If the request does not meet the criteria for release, the request shall be denied.  All requests shall be entered and documented as a watch commander log entry and forwarded to the unit commander.

Any station personnel furnishing information to a person not authorized by law to receive such information is guilty of a misdemeanor, to wit, California Penal Code Section 11142.
