INMATE CLASSIFICATION FOR WHEELCHAIR COURT TRANSPORTATION
INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this informational bulletin is to provide all personnel assigned to Custody Operations with information pertaining to the introduction of a new sub-classification to identify inmates requiring a wheelchair for transportation to court or other outside locations.
PROCEDURES
Inmates who require a wheelchair for transportation to court/outside locations shall be identified by utilizing the [REDACTED TEXT]. The [REDACTED TEXT] may be used in conjunction with other sub-classification symbols. The symbol shall be present on the inmate’s wristband for easy identification.
Inmates identified with the [REDACTED TEXT] will only use wheelchairs for transportation purposes and do not need to be housed in wheelchair-accessible housing based solely on this sub-classification.
Personnel shall contact their respective facility Access to Care Bureau ADA Coordinator/Lieutenant to ensure enough wheelchairs are available to accommodate court transportation for these inmates. Each facility will be responsible for staging wheelchairs in a designated area for court transportation only.
Prior to court transportation, personnel will retrieve the wheelchair from the designated area and provide it to the identified inmate. The inmate will take the assigned wheelchair with them to court. The assigned wheelchairs will be returned to the designated area by personnel when the inmate returns from court.
Any question concerning the contents of this bulletin can be directed to the Population Management Bureau – Classifications at [REDACTED TEXT].
