OUTSIDE HOSPITAL HOUSING CODES AND INMATE ACCOUNTABILITY

INTRODUCTION

The purpose of this informational bulletin is to establish a standardized procedure across all custody facilities for tracking inmates hospitalized for more than 24 hours. The use of existing outside-hospital codes will improve inmate accountability, maintain accurate facility counts, and ensure consistency throughout Custody operations.

PROCEDURES

Facility personnel will monitor all inmates admitted to LAGMC or any other outside hospitals.

When an inmate remains hospitalized for more than 24 hours at the Los Angeles General Medical Center (LAGMC) or any other outside hospital, facility personnel should update the inmate’s housing location to the appropriate Outside Hospital (OH) code in the Automated Justice Information System (AJIS) based on the inmate’s assigned facility.

This update will remove the inmate from the originating facility count while maintaining accountability and location tracking.

Facility personnel will continue monitoring inmates admitted to outside hospitals.

All inmates assigned to an OH code shall be included in the daily 0300 count report distributed to the [REDACTED TEXT] email group. The inmate’s OH status and hospital location shall be documented in the body of the email.

Inmates requiring placement in a Medical Outpatient Specialty Housing (MOSH) unit upon discharge shall be processed in accordance with existing Urgent Care and housing placement protocols.

Inmates pending admission to a Correctional Treatment Center (CTC) will be placed on the pending-admission list and do not require Urgent Care clearance due to their existing medical level of care requirements.

Central Housing Unit (CHU) personnel will continue coordinating housing assignments for inmates awaiting placement from Urgent Care and CTC pending-admission list.

The following housing codes are the designated OH codes:

  • [REDACTED TEXT] – Twin Towers Outside Hospital
  • [REDACTED TEXT]- Correctional Treatment Outside Hospital
