5-09/570.01 - Unmanned Aircraft System - Pilot Program Procedures



Patrol Stations designated to participate in a patrol Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) six-month pilot program shall follow MPP provisions 5-09/570.00 and 5-09/570.10. 

Selected personnel from the designated pilot program stations will become members of the UAS cadre when they complete and maintain UAS training as specified by SEB and in accordance with the FAA Certificate of Authorization issued to LASD.  Only those station individuals certified by the SEB unit commander as current in all required UAS training and who understand the Department reporting requirements shall operate an UAS. 

Following the six-month pilot period, an evaluation of the UAS usage shall be conducted and made public regarding the usage and value of using the UAS at the pilot station.  The Undersheriff, or the Undersheriff’s designee, will determine whether the station pilot program will be converted to longer term use.
