PURPOSE:

The purpose of this unit order is for patrol personnel who have been issued Body-Worn Cameras (BWC) and are working in a patrol capacity to document and record pre-shift vehicle inspections on video.  They must also provide a statement about the vehicle’s condition on the “Tour of Duty Equipment Report” (MPP 5-09/240.10).

SCOPE OF ORDER:

Effective immediately, deputies and sergeants who have been issued a Body-Worn Camera (BWC) and are working at Cerritos station in a patrol capacity shall record a BWC video of their assigned vehicle before driving it that day.  This video shall reasonably document all visible sides of the vehicle and include a verbal description of any observed or known damage.  Significant damage shall be immediately reported to a sergeant and/or watch commander.  If circumstances arise that necessitates an emergent response at the start of the shift before recording the video, the driver shall respond to the situation and record their inspection video as soon as feasible.  If, for any reason, the vehicle inspection video was delayed, an explanation as to why shall be included in the video.

ORDER

Vehicle inspection videos shall be titled “vehicle inspection,” associated with the briefing observation tag (924B), and labeled with a “Three Retention Category.”
