Unit Order 66- Use of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS)



PURPOSE OF ORDER: 
The purpose of this order is to establish procedures for operating and maintaining safety while using the Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) assigned to Altadena Station. 
SCOPE OF ORDER: 
This order applies to all Altadena Station Mountain Rescue Team personnel trained in the use of the Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) 
ORDER: 
Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) pilots SHALL keep up-to-date and be in compliance with all Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department (LASO) UAS policies including the Department's Certificate of Waiver Authorization (COA) with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). 
UAS may be used for training, search and rescue, and calls for service (per Manual of Policy and Procedures 5-09/570.00: A UAS SHALL NOT be used for non-emergent surveillance missions or missions that would violate the privacy rights of the public. 
UAS SHALL be registered with LASO. 
Flights in positive controlled airspace where communication with an Air Traffic Controller is necessary should be flown by a pilot with an F Part 1 certification.
