ENTERING MOTORIZED VEHICLES INTO THE
STOLEN VEHICLE SYSTEM (SVS)
PURPOSE
The purpose of this newsletter is to inform Department personnel of the Justice Data Interface Controller (JDIC) requirements for entering all motorized vehicles into SVS.
MOTORIZED VEHICLE DEFINED
The Department of Justice (DOJ) definition of a motorized vehicle is a self-propelled vehicle that runs on land surface.
NCIC’s definition of a motorized vehicle is any motor-driven conveyance (except a boat) designed to carry its operator. Aircrafts and trailers are also included in this definition.
These would include but are not limited to: Motorized riding lawnmowers, motorized wheelchairs, motorized ride-on toys, motorized mopeds, pocket bikes, motorized skateboard/surfboard/hover-boards/wheel balancing board, assembled vehicle, snowmobile, golf cart, electric utility cart, all-terrain dune buggy, go-cart, construction, and farm equipment.
CHP-180 REQUIRED
The DOJ requires all motorized vehicles to be entered into SVS using a CHP-180. If a statistical code of 090-099 is used, then a CHP-180 should be used for the report and the vehicle entered into SVS.
The SVS entry for ride on toys would be:
Make field “SPEC”
Model field “TOY”
Body Type “OP”
In the Remarks section, identify the make by writing VMA/Brand Name.
The SVS entry for lawnmowers and wheelchairs would be:
Make field “SPEC”
Model field “WHE”
Body Type “OP”
In the Remarks section, identify the make by writing VMA/Brand Name.
