                                               KNOWLEDGE BASED AUTHENTICATION (KBA)

Knowledge Based Authentication (KBA) is a pilot program that is designed to assist with the identification of individuals through a series of targeted questions.  The goal of this project is to prevent the erroneous issuance of thousands of arrest warrants naming innocent persons as a result of low-level violators providing false names or identification when arrested and/or cited. 

How it Works

After logging on to the site and inputting the subject’s data, a series of questions will need to be answered by the subject.  The responses given are tallied and provide a PASS or FAIL score.  This tool, along with other information obtained via other law enforcement databases, may allow you to release or cite individuals without true identification if you determine the results reliable. 

KBA is solely a tool to assist in verifying the identification of individuals for citation release in the field.  This should not replace any other Department databases used for identifying a subject, and it does not change existing misdemeanor release procedures requiring positive identification. 

KBA is accessible via the MDC and desktop computers with access to the Sheriff’s Data Network.
