                                                      NEW MEXICAN PASSPORT     

 

Beginning October 1, 2015, the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs began issuing a new version of the Mexican Passport.  The new format contains the following changes:

 

  1. The passport contains 32 pages printed with security ink. Each visa page has a different Coat of Arms, representing the Mexican States, but excluding the state of Aguascalientes in alphabetical order starting with Baja California.  Passport pages include guilloche patterns in pink and green.

 

  1. The inside of the front cover is produced using offset printing with latent images, micro-printed text and a barcode.

 

  1. Visa pages are printed on a security paper incorporating a multitoned watermark of the Mexican Coat of Arms and the official name of the country "ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS", on the upper portion. Pages contain a security strip with a micro-printed text pattern which reads "MEXICO SRE", a green spiral surrounding each coat of arms, page numbers, and the word "VISAS" printed in grey.

 

  1. The new passport may include the surname of the spouse, and for minors (persons under 18 years) the holder's signature is not required.

 

  1. The laminate security features are:

 

    • Serial number (eight alphanumeric characters) on the upper left side, printed in black ink.
    • De-metalized image of an Olmec colossal head.
    • Diffractive Optical Variable Image Device (DOVID) holograms.

 

  1. According to the angle of observation or illumination, the laminates include:

 

    • Visual switch between a snake and Olmec colossal head
    • Optical appearance of the phrase "Sella Pafs" that changes color at different angle
    • Optical appearance of the word "MEX"
    • Optical appearance of a pyramid
