Minors held in temporary custody at a Sheriff's station/unit who do not meet the criteria for a secure detention may be held in non-secure custody if a brief period of time (no more than six hours) is needed to investigate the case, facilitate release of the minor to a parent, guardian, or responsible relative, make a referral to the Department’s Juvenile Diversion Program, or arrange for the transfer of the minor to an appropriate juvenile facility.
