The Juvenile Diversion Program was developed in conjunction with the Youth Diversion and Development Unit (YDD), County of Los Angeles. These guidelines were developed as a tool to support the Department to standardize and coordinate protocol to effectively divert juveniles from involvement or increased involvement in the justice system in alignment with standards for youth diversion in Los Angeles County.
This policy was developed to be an effective, equitable, cost-saving practice in juvenile justice diversion. Incorporating these procedures will help to promote fair, consistent, and effective practice across the Department.
Procedures not covered in the Juvenile Diversion Program policy shall be governed by the Department’s juvenile policy (sections 5-02/000.00 through 5-02/170.05)
