All Units receiving crank or threatening communications directed to and received by public officials and/or private citizens, either letters or telephonic, shall forward two copies of the report and evidence to the Major Crimes Bureau.  The reporting Unit shall retain the originals.  If, after review by the Major Crimes Bureau, the threat qualifies, entry into the DOJ Automated Threat Communication System (ATCS) shall be made.  All inquiries and information from the system shall be through the Major Crimes Bureau.

Confidential report.

Safety of the victim is the primary concern.  Obtain the phone number, name and address of informant; advise him he will be contacted shortly for further arrangements.  Immediately notify Station/Unit Detectives and Major Crimes Bureau.  Do not dispatch a patrol car or uniformed Deputies unless ordered to do so by Major Crimes Bureau.

If there is reasonable fear for the victim's safety after the first stages of the Station/Unit Detectives' investigation are completed, notify Major Crimes Bureau.

Judicial Services Unit (JSU)

 

Sheriff’s Department Court personnel shall make a preliminary inquiry to the threatened judge.  Immediately notify the Judicial Services Unit .  Judicial Services Unit will notify the CHP regarding section 76 of the Penal Code.

Judicial Services Unit (JSU)

All Units receiving any threat towards the Board of Supervisors, Chief Administrative Officer, or their respective executive staff should immediately notify the Judicial Services Unit.  In addition to the notification, any reports shall be forwarded to the Judicial Services Unit.
