(Traffic Advisory)

MDT/MDC

Deputies observing a hazardous or potentially hazardous condition which may affect the flow of traffic shall immediately notify the Station/Unit Watch Sergeant by radio or Mobil Digital Terminal/Mobile Digital Computer ( MDT/MDC).  The Station/Unit Watch Sergeant or other Deputy so designated will begin procedures for a traffic advisory, if necessary, by notifying the Sheriff's Communications Center (SCC).

The advisement will remain in effect until a cancellation is requested through the same channels.

Smog Alert

When a smog alert is called by the South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD), deputies observing the burning or incineration of any combustible waste shall solicit the cooperation of the person in charge to desist in such activity.

When unusual amounts of smoke or air pollutants are emitting from industrial or business establishments, the observing Deputy shall contact the Station/Unit Watch Commander by telephone and inform him of the name, address and type of activity involved.

The information shall, in turn, be relayed to the enforcement section of the AQMD.

Deputies will not issue citations unless specifically requested to do so by AQMD.

NOTE:  Citation should be given under section 27153 CVC for excessive smoke from motor vehicle.
